INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Prerequisite: Teacher permission

This course provides a means of artistic expression and progressive development for the student who enjoys instrumental music.  The year-round program includes both Marching Band, Pep and Concert Band.

Marching Band – Student studies various marching styles and performs at parades, and varsity football games.  Attendance is required during summer.  Auxiliary units (Majorettes, Color Guard) must participate in Concert Band to receive full credit, but do not necessarily have to belong to the instrumental program to participate in the auxiliary units.

Concert Band – Student studies and performs a varied selection of instrumental music repertoire at concerts and competitions. Because of the nature of this program, and the inclusive schedule of performances, membership in Senior Instrumental Music must include both Marching and Concert Bands.  Exceptions made only with the director’s consent.  Membership in an extracurricular group (Jazz Ensemble, Solo & Ensemble, Musical Orchestra) is by audition and/or consent of the director.

Pep Band: Students will participate in athletic band for basketball games after school throughout December-February. Over the course of 12 games, students will learn to play a varied repertoire of music at a high level and encourage excitement at our sporting events.

HONORS INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Additional Information: Students in the Honors section are required to complete a thorough application/audition for OMEA's District 1 Honors Ensemble and prepare a solo for OMEA's District 1 Solo and Ensemble. Students are not required to be accepted to OMEA's District 1 Honors Ensemble to receive the honors credit.

8th GRADE BAND

This course provides a means of artistic expression and progressive development for the student who enjoys instrumental music.  Student studies and performs a varied selection of instrumental music repertoire and perform at concerts and competitions.  Attendance at performances is mandatory.

7th GRADE BAND

Prerequisite: Teacher permission

Credit: 1                    Grade: 7                Fee: $11

This course provides a means of artistic expression and progressive development for the student who enjoys instrumental music.  Students further their instrumental music knowledge. Students scaffold their ability to read music and express themselves through instrumental music. Students study and perform a varied selection of instrumental music repertoire and perform at concerts and competitions.  Attendance at performances is mandatory.

6th GRADE BAND

Prerequisite: Teacher permission

Credit: 1                    Grade: 6                Fee: $11

This course provides a means of artistic expression and progressive development for the student who enjoys instrumental music.  Students build upon the basics of instrumental music during this class. Students continue to learn reading music and express themselves through instrumental music. Students study and perform a varied selection of instrumental music repertoire and perform at concerts and competitions.  Attendance at performances is mandatory.

5th GRADE BAND

This course provides a means of artistic expression and progressive development for the student who enjoys instrumental music.  Students learn the basics of instrumental music during this class. Students learn to read music and express themselves through instrumental music. Students study and perform a varied selection of instrumental music repertoire and perform at concerts and competitions.  Attendance at performances is mandatory.
